By Donna Bamford

The water is indigo today
and bronze and green
but where it is glistening
the colours are northern
and the colours in the leaves,
saffron, and russet and olive,
the sunlight brilliant,
all coolness, purity and light

Give thanks
for glistening things, iridescent
like ripples in the wind,
incandescent things
like so many sequins on velvet
like chips of diamond
thrown up by the wind.
